The story of Bettys began in Harrogate in 1919, and we’ve been welcoming locals and visitors to our tea rooms ever since. Before you enter it’s worth pausing under the wrought iron canopy to feast your eyes on the mouth-watering window displays that vary with the season. Once inside the shop you’ll be spoilt for choice with over 300 breads, cakes and chocolates, as well as 50 different teas and coffees. In the Café the tables by the windows overlooking the Stray and colourful Montpellier gardens are always the most popular, however, in our downstairs Spindler Gallery you can enjoy views of Yorkshire of a more unusual kind. Here you’ll find a collection of exquisite Marquetry scenes of Yorkshire from the studio of Charles Spindler in Alsace, which was established in the late 1890s at the height of the Art Nouveau period. Bettys founder, Frederick Belmont, discovered Spindler’s work in the early 1930s and commissioned the studio to make Yorkshire scenes to hang in his tea rooms. |

Probably it's the name Betty's that turn people away. I was more interested in scooter that was parked outside.

nor do i see what all the fuss is about. Sorry Betty's, but you are only a part glorified cafe with a selection of coffees/teas and overpriced chocolates and cakes. I'd much prefer spending my hard earned cash on things worthwhile. Harvey Nicks & Harrods here we come.

I've had a good laugh reading these reviews and second them. Haven't all you guys noticed another thing about the imfamous Betty's of Harrogate? They can never hold on to work staff for more than a few weeks, it gets tedious seeing the constant adverisement for recruitment and crying out for staff every other week! COME ALONG FOR AN INTERVIEW AND JOIN OUR FUN & FRIENDLY TEAM. WE ARE CONTINUALLY EXPANDING WITHIN THIS FABULOUS FAMILY BUSINESS SO DON'T MISS THE OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME. (We promise you'll love it and never want to leave......)Really?. So if it's that spiffing a place to work why do staff keep walking.

Seconded. We are also regular visitors to the york based betty's and absolutely love it.
We found the harrogate one does not have a patch on the york cafe and there is no snobbery connected to the york one. The york staff are lovely and talk about 'service with a smile' which is very important and that is what you get there.
Also, the shoppers/customers DO say "thank you" when holding a door open for them. The harrogate townies however obviously need serious lessons on how to become polite and respectful, and learn how to look less aggresive. That'll be the day pigs will fly.

I cannot disagree with you fashion gal except for one thing, and one thing only that the coffee is fair. Having said that, whittards sell coffees that are miles better. If i was asked to choose between the two I would go for whittards hands down.

I'm a regular visitor to the Betty's in York and just called in this one today as I was passing through back to York, and have to say it has NOT by any chance got a single patch on the Betty's of York! Why? because the staff at the harrogate one prance around as if the world owes them. not only the staff - but the type of people that were in there who were fake and arrogant with faces like a wet weekend. People do not know how to smile there. Very unpleasant. Harrogate is only an ostentatious little spa town with a few simple shops, restaurants, simple pubs and a few acres of grass called a "Stray". Wowee. No way is it posh, no way is it welcoming and friendly, and no way is it anything except a dull, boring place. Not Sandbanks!.
