Saving The Stones at Burley-in-Wharfedale

The issue of building a bridge across the river at Burley-in-Wharfedale has been ongoing for over 100 years. All attempts have failed. The Burley Bridge Association proposals have come up with a hugely extravagant unnecessary and vastly expensive design thus ensuring it will never be built.

A more pragmatic solution would be to restore “The Stones” which have provided a route across the river for over 200 years.
With this in mind, a website http://www.saveourstones.webs.com was set up on 21 August 2009 and so is still in its infancy. This outlines the background and provides an opportunity to register support and vote on whether to press for restoring The Stones or not.

Local councillor Matt Palmer is pursuing the issue.

Could I make a plea for all those who enjoy walking in our lovely countryside and who would like to extend their options to visit the site and register support.
